Is it bad to lift weights in the morning?
I am trying to lose weight… I go to the gym after work 3 days a week and do 40 minutes of cardio, but I know that I should incorporate strength training.
Would it be bad for my body to lift with free weights (10-lbs) first thing in the morning, after I’ve gotten out of bed and loosened up?
It’s not bad, just hard and inefficient.
Even if you warm up and stretch, weightlifting is an intense anaerobic exercise. No matter how hard you breathe, your muscles would never get enough oxygen to make it an aerobic exercise. During weightlifting, fat-burning shuts down and muscles need to use sugar (glucose)…which is pretty hard to do if you haven’t eaten yet and you have low blood sugar levels.
If I do weight training before breakfast, it’s twice as hard, I’m weaker and cannot progress…so I don’t because I like it efficient and easy!
You could switch two of your cardio at the gym with weight training and then do some cardio in the morning…
